Hey everyone — it’s Leaflit here. Today I’m reacting to a pretty wild and disturbing Matt Walsh video about a controversial bio-ethics proposal: that we could breed trillions of ticks that give people a meat allergy—and that some in the climate crowd actually support it in the name of saving the planet.

Here’s what’s going on: certain academics have floated the idea of using the lone star tick to spread alpha-gal syndrome (AGS), a real, potentially serious allergy to red meat. Instead of fighting these ticks as a disease risk, some argue they should be used as a tool to force people not to eat meat anymore. According to them, inducing this allergy could help reduce meat consumption globally, and that’s somehow “morally obligatory.”

I can’t just sit quietly about this:

It’s dehumanizing. Prioritizing the planet over individual health and bodily autonomy is a slippery slope. Deliberately spreading a disease—or at least a serious medical condition—is not “bio-enhancement,” it’s coercion.

It’s dangerous. AGS isn’t just a mild food allergy. According to the CDC, it can be life-threatening.

It shows a terrifying worldview. These “climate ethicists” are essentially saying some people’s biology should be re-engineered—or “enhanced”—without their consent, for a political / environmental goal. That’s playing with people’s lives as if they’re lab experiments.

It erodes trust. When “fixing” the planet becomes more important than respecting human health, what’s next? If these ideas catch on, who gets to decide which diseases are “useful”?

In this reaction I walk through:

What Matt Walsh is exposing and where this proposal even came from.

The real science behind alpha-gal syndrome: how tick bites cause it, what the risks are, and why it’s not something to toy with.

Why the idea of spreading disease for an ideological goal is deeply unethical.
