Alberta introduces “Peterson Law” to protect free expression

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith has introduced Bill 13, the “Peterson Law,” which her government says will stop professional regulators from disciplining members for lawful off-duty expression.

Smith also invoked the notwithstanding clause to shield three major bills tied to parental rights, gender policies, and women’s sports.

Meanwhile, the premier unveiled Alberta’s Dual Practice Model for healthcare, promising shorter surgical wait times while keeping the Public Health Care Guarantee intact.
