NJ Firefighter Caught on Camera Tying Noose in Front of Black Colleague – $25 Million Lawsuit Filed

Disturbing 2023 surveillance footage from the Bloomfield, New Jersey firehouse shows firefighter John Coffey tying a noose in front of Black firefighter Gregory Richardson, then taunting him to identify the knot while other firefighters stand by and do nothing.

Richardson has now filed a $25 million federal civil rights lawsuit against the township, alleging ongoing racial harassment—including a previous noose found in the firehouse.

The incident remained hidden for over two years until the video was finally released.
