Citizen Z Animations Present Double-Feature: Animal Farm (1954) + Mr. Bug Goes to Town (1941)

A two-pack of animation history that proves the medium was swinging long before CGI and billion-dollar franchises took over.

First up: Animal Farm (1954).
Orwell’s barnyard uprising gets the Cold War animated makeover — the first British animated feature and still one of the bleakest “cartoons” ever made. The animals revolt, power corrupts, pigs get ambitious, and the ending politely punches you in the soul.

Then: Mr. Bug Goes to Town (1941).
Fleischer Studios fires off one last masterpiece before history interrupts. A small bug tries to build a safe home in a world full of giant, clumsy humans. Gorgeous hand-drawn animation, jazzy charm, and the kind of heart Hollywood forgot how to manufacture.

Two films, two very different worlds — one reminder that classic animation didn’t play around.
