DOJ Drops the Hammer: Democrat Rep Faces 53 YEARS for FEMA Fraud

Florida Democrat Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick has been hit with a federal indictment after prosecutors say she stole $5 MILLION in FEMA disaster funds, laundered the money through friends and family, and then used it to bankroll her own 2021 congressional campaign.

According to the DOJ, Cherfilus-McCormick — along with her brother Edwin and several co-conspirators — allegedly funneled the FEMA overpayment through multiple accounts to hide the source of the cash. Prosecutors say the stolen money funded campaign contributions, personal benefits, and even tax fraud schemes involving falsified deductions.

Attorney General Pamela Bondi didn’t hold back:
“Using disaster relief funds for self-enrichment is a particularly selfish, cynical crime… No one is above the law.”

FBI Director Kash Patel echoed the same:
“This individual and her family allegedly stole money from FEMA… Today the FBI and DOJ took action.”

GOP lawmakers are calling for action. Rep. Greg Steube says this is “one of the most egregious abuses of public trust I have ever seen.” He is already moving to censure and remove Cherfilus-McCormick from all committees — with a push to expel her from Congress if she’s convicted.

• Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick: Up to 53 years
• Edwin Cherfilus: Up to 35 years
• Nadege Leblanc: Up to 10 years
• David Spencer: Up to 33 years

And despite the evidence, Cherfilus-McCormick is now claiming she’s being targeted “because she’s Black.”

Meanwhile, critics are calling out the fact that her company kept a $5 million FEMA “accidental” payment when they were only owed $50,000 — and never reported it.
