“They are traitors.” Moravia Peralta Hernandez, Venezuelan Ambassador to Kenya

On 20th November 2025, Ahmed Kaballo from Sovereign Media sat down with Ambassador Moravia Peralta Hernandez in Nairobi as part of coordinated international actions against U.S. attacks on Venezuela taking place from 15 to 23 November 2025. The discussion covered everything from the possibility of a U.S. military intervention in Venezuela to the rise of Washington backed opposition figures, including one who recently won the Nobel Peace Prize despite previously urging foreign attack on her own country.

Ambassador Hernandez dismissed figures such as Juan Guaidó, Leopoldo López and María Corina Machado as “traitors to the homeland”, insisting they “are not opposition, they are business people” with no popular support, who would hand Venezuela’s natural resources to the United States.

From Iran to Vietnam, Iraq to Chile, Afghanistan to occupied Palestine, the U.S. has a long record of backing unpopular figures to undermine independent governments, and Venezuela is no exception.

Washington continues to signal political support for María Corina Machado, the leader of Venezuela’s far right, who has repeatedly advocated for foreign intervention to remove Nicolás Maduro, arguing he cannot be removed democratically. Machado has also aligned herself with Israel, writing to Benjamin Netanyahu in 2018 to seek international help in “dismantling” the Maduro government and later expressing support for Israel’s regional policies.

With Venezuela holding the world’s largest oil reserves, it seems like the U.S. is reviving an updated version of the Iraq model, where military intervention is dressed up as democracy promotion and followed by violent resource exploitation.
