Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene says she will resign, after fallout with Trump

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene announced Friday night that she will resign from Congress effective Jan. 5, citing a dramatic breakdown in her relationship with President Donald Trump.

Once one of Trump’s strongest allies, Greene said the president turned on her—calling her a “traitor” and “lunatic”—after she supported releasing DOJ files related to Jeffrey Epstein and criticized his priorities.

Trump withdrew his endorsement and signaled support for a primary challenger, which Greene said would subject her district to a “hurtful and hateful” fight.

In her resignation statement, Greene argued that she had been one of Trump’s most loyal supporters and said loyalty “should be a two way street,” rejecting what she described as being treated like a “battered wife,” CNBC has reported.

Her departure will narrow the GOP’s already slim House majority and could reshape her future in the MAGA movement, which she acknowledged may be ending for her.
