Driver Slams Into Tree, Flown to Houston, BIG SANDY, November 21, 2025 - At approximately 9:50 am on November 21, 2025 the driver of a white late model Hyundai Santa Fe was north-bound on FM-1276. The driver possibly fell asleep as he left the pavement to the left and slammed head on into a large pine tree. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Alabama Coushatta, Segno, and Indian Springs Volunteer Fire Departments. Trooper Simon Wyble (from Trinity County) was dispatched to investigate and was assisted by Sergeant Adam McDowell, and Corporal Dakota Martinez with The Polk County Sheriff's Office, and Officer Chad Lilley with the Alabama Coushatta Police Department. The driver, Robert Roddy, 54, of Indian Springs, was entrapped. Firemen and EMS personnel used extraction equipment to cut the door, and the roof off of Roddy's vehicle. Roddy was carefully removed from his vehicle and was prepped for flight as a Life Flight Helicopter landed on 1276. Roddy was flown to Houston with major injuries. All traffic on FM-1276 was blocked during investigation, cleanup, and flight operations. This accident remains under investigation by The Texas Highway Patrol.
