In reversal, DOJ says Comey indictment was reviewed by full grand jury

Federal prosecutors reversed their position Thursday and said the full grand jury had reviewed and approved the two-count indictment of former FBI Director James Comey, contradicting statements made in court the previous day.

During Wednesday’s hearing, U.S. Attorney Lindsey Halligan and Assistant U.S. Attorney Tyler Lemons both testified that the revised indictment was never shown to the entire grand jury, prompting Comey’s attorney to argue the case should be dismissed.

The DOJ’s reversal came amid accusations from Comey’s legal team that former President Trump manipulated the prosecution by replacing the U.S. attorney with a loyalist and publicly demanding charges against political opponents.

After the hearing, DOJ officials issued public statements criticizing the judge, claiming he had called Halligan a “puppet”, ABC News has reported.

Comey has pleaded not guilty, and the dispute over the indictment process and political influence continues to overshadow the case.
