A Massachusetts man was taken into custody Thursday after authorities discovered nine explosive devices in his vehicle during a traffic stop.

Jason E. Baldarelli Jr., 27, from Wheeler Road in Princeton, was arrested on charges of unlawful possession of explosive devices. He appeared in Leominster District Court the same day and was held on $7,500 bail.

The case began early Monday morning around 4 a.m., when Princeton police responded to reports of explosions on Wheeler Road. Initial investigation quickly identified Baldarelli as a person of interest.

Authorities obtained a search warrant and, working with several agencies—including the Massachusetts Joint Terrorism Task Force and the Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad—stopped Baldarelli’s truck around 7 a.m. Thursday on Hubbardston Road. Officers found nine explosive devices inside the vehicle and arrested him without incident.

A subsequent search of his Wheeler Road home uncovered 23 additional devices. The explosives from his truck were safely detonated by the Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad later that day.

Neighbors described the house as a hazardous presence, noting the frequent explosions that had shaken the neighborhood since Baldarelli moved in. “I knew it wasn’t fireworks. I knew it was something more. Fireworks aren’t going to shake my house,” one resident said.

Baldarelli was also scheduled to appear in Clinton Court on Friday regarding a separate incident in Sterling.
