Charlotte, North Carolina is “nearly empty” after a massive ICE and Border Patrol operation called Operation Charlotte’s Web hit the city. City officials and business owners are complaining that the presence of federal agents has killed foot traffic, shuttered shops, and slashed revenue.

What they are not saying out loud is the most important part. DHS says more than 250 people have already been arrested in just the first four days, many with rap sheets that include felony larceny, weapons charges, gang ties, assaults, DUIs, shoplifting, and illegal re-entry.

A beloved Latino bakery closed for the first time in 28 years because the owner was afraid customers might be detained on the sidewalk. A local laundromat reports revenue down 50% in a single day, tire shops and construction crews are shutting down because workers simply did not show up, and whole neighborhoods that used to be packed are now quiet and deserted.
