One of the earliest pioneers of death metal, Necrophagia carved a path of horror, filth, and brutality that helped shape the extreme music landscape. Formed in the early '80s by the legendary Killjoy, the band fused grotesque horror themes with raw, crushing riffs long before the genre fully took form. Their debut album, Season of the Dead (1987), stood as one of the first full-length death metal records, influencing countless bands in the underground.

Despite disbanding for nearly a decade, Necrophagia returned stronger than ever in the '90s, with Phil Anselmo (Pantera, Down) contributing to their resurrection. Their later works delved even deeper into horror aesthetics, making them a cult favorite among fans of extreme music and gore cinema alike.
