The Darmstadt Railway Operations Center (EBD) is a joint project of the three partners:
* Academic Working Group for Rail Transport (AKA Bahn)
* DB Training, Learning & Consulting
* Institute for Railway Systems and Railway Technology at the Technical University of Darmstadt

The annual open day at the Darmstadt Railway Operations Center, or EBD for short, took place on Saturday, June 28, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The EBD simulates railway operations using a wide variety of interlocking designs – from mechanical to modern electronic interlocking – on an area of ​​approximately 500 square meters and an equivalent of approximately 135 km of track with over 17 stations, transfer points, and junctions. The operating points can be controlled using different interlocking designs depending on the application. From the operations center, where two dispatchers manage the entire layout's operations, to the staffing of all signal boxes at the individual stations, where over 18 dispatchers and switchmen are deployed, everything is possible.

The (model railway) layout was fully operational on the open day.

In addition to the opportunity to freely move through the layout, observe operations, and look over the shoulders of the dispatchers or ask questions, there was a diverse supporting program, ranging from guided tours and lectures to refreshments.

In addition, additional contacts from the cooperation partners AKA Bahn and TU Darmstadt were available to explain the function and application of the layout in research, training and continuing education, as well as in academic studies, and were also available to answer general questions about the cooperation partners.
