Episode 1354: Should Believers under grace keep the OT dietary laws? Part 2
Hello everyone. In this morning's Bible study we continue looking at the Believer's relationship to the law while living under grace.
What we have been seeing from the scriptures is that living under grace is actually more stringent than living under the Mosaic law. Why? Because the Lord Jesus explained that the law was more than a governor of actions, it also included the intents and thoughts.
Whoa! Not good! If that's true, and it is, then we are all in trouble.
You may be saying, oh not me, I don't have problems with any of that. Oh, really. Would you be willing to allow the Lord God to place on display your every thought and intent for all to hear and see? All of the deep things that goes on only in the recesses of your own mind.
I personally, would not sign up for that one. So, what's the issue then with the law and what should our relationship be towards the law of God.
First, the issue with the law is us, we can't keep it. The reason we can't keep it is because we are conceived in sin even before we interact with the law hence we can't keep it because we are dead. One must be alive to live out the law.
Second, our relationship should be as stated in the scriptures.
Galatians 2:19-21 (NKJV)
19 For I through the law died to the law that I might live to God. 20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. 21 I do not set aside the grace of God; for if righteousness comes through the law, then Christ died in vain.”
Here it is friends, the Lord cannot be more clear about these things.1 Corinthians 10:23-32 (NKJV)
All to the Glory of God
(cf. Ps. 24:1)
23 All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful; all things are lawful for me, but not all things edify. 24 Let no one seek his own, but each one the other’s well-being.
25 Eat whatever is sold in the meat market, asking no questions for conscience’ sake; 26 for “the earth is the LORD’S, and all its fullness.”
27 If any of those who do not believe invites you to dinner, and you desire to go, eat whatever is set before you, asking no question for conscience’ sake. 28 But if anyone says to you, “This was offered to idols,” do not eat it for the sake of the one who told you, and for conscience’ sake; for “the earth is the LORD’S, and all its fullness.” 29 “Conscience,” I say, not your own, but that of the other. For why is my liberty judged by another man’s conscience? 30 But if I partake with thanks, why am I evil spoken of for the food over which I give thanks?
31 Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. 32 Give no offense, either to the Jews or to the Greeks or to the church of God 33 just as I also please all men in all things, not seeking my own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved.
