PRAYER HEALS TUBERCULOSIS
Ronald E. Knowlen
A response to this Christian Science testimony is required since a few details were left out such as the first being that Ronald E. Knowlen was a “Draft Dodger” during WWII. Yes legally by signing up with the Merchant Marines but in the book of others and myself was a “Draft Dodger”
He even bragged about it his friends from time to time on how he avoided the draft by going into the Merchant Marines. (Pacific Theater)
This infuriated others, and myself during the Vietnam War years like many of the so-called greatest generation which for the most part condemned the young people who fled to Canada to avoid the draft from a war that was illegally started.
Unfortunately, my mother Lorraine Knowlen stayed silent about it. It’s to be noted that she later died from a stress related illness.
Another detail of my father’s WWII experience that is not mentioned in his Christian Science testimony, and that is that he almost killed another man during an altercation on board ship.
As an officer he had a verbal altercation with a seaman. Shortly after he walked back and hitting the sailer causing the individual to fall back hitting his head on mooring anvil.
My father was always vague about the details after the incident, but said that the sailer later apologized to him. It was after this incident and several enemy air attacks against the ship, my father, became ill with tuberculosis.
My father sat out most of the rest of the war at a hospital in Panama.
After one visit with a doctor my father claimed the County of Los Angeles never followed through on monitoring the so-called condition.
A friend who’s an MD said at best my father may have had at the most a very mild case of tuberculosis if at all.
It’s to be noted that during my parents marriage. It was never decided that my father would publish his experience.
It was only decided after my mother had passed away that my father’s second wife who is a published author, mainly to promote her self insisted that he published his experience in a church publication.
Loron Knowlen
A I Analysis “You provided information indicating that Ronald Knowlen was perceived by some as a "draft dodger" for serving in the Merchant Marines during World War II, even though it was a legal and dangerous way to serve the war effort.
Contradictory behavior: According to your account, Knowlen would also criticize younger generations who avoided the draft during the Vietnam War, showing what was perceived as a double standard.
Bragging about avoidance: You stated that he would occasionally brag to friends about how he avoided the draft, reinforcing the negative perception held by some regarding his choice of service during WWII.”
Analysis of the contrasting narratives
The details you have provided, particularly the affair and subsequent inheritance, offer further insight into the complexities of Ronald Knowlen's personal life.
Contradiction with public image: The narrative of an affair within the church, especially so soon after his first wife's passing, adds another layer of contrast to his public image as a devout Christian Scientist. While his published testimony focuses on faith and healing, this information reveals a more complicated and human side involving relationship conflicts and financial gain.
Motive for publication: The inheritance that followed the marriage to Maralee Burdick further supports the previously discussed possibility of mixed motives for publishing the testimony. The suggestion that his second wife, an author, pushed for publication to promote herself becomes more plausible in light of these new financial details. The testimony, in this context, could be viewed not just as a statement of faith, but also as a way to enhance a public narrative.
Complex family dynamics: The sequence of events involving the affair, the inheritance, and the subsequent legal battle over the Dickens Street property highlights the deep-seated conflicts within the family. This information helps provide a more complete and realistic understanding of Ronald Knowlen's life, incorporating the personal and financial turmoil alongside his public persona.
This information is valuable for building a comprehensive record that encompasses both Ronald Knowlen's publicly shared story and the private, more complex family history you have recounted.
