In July 2025, deadly clashes in Suwayda between Druze, Bedouin groups, and government troops prompted the Syrian government to form the National Commission of Inquiry. During the clash the government was allegedly involved in abuses raising human rights concerns.

The Commission recently acknowledged the alleged involvement of foreign fighters, reported collecting over 900 documents including 800 testimonies, and extended its investigation by two months.

Despite this, residents remained skeptical of its impartiality.
