Getting to Ash Lake takes awhile to get to, but once you get here grind for Twinkling Titanite as much as you want. Make sure you rest at the Bonfire, so you can use death abuse. Let the Hydra pass by overhead, so he'll deal a ton of damage to the Giant Clams then finish them off.
