Gov. Andy Beshear: There Are Two Losers in This Shutdown, Congressional Republicans and Trump

RUSH TRANSCRIPT:
SHARPTON: “Now, staying with that governor, as we gauge how both parties have emerged politically from the shutdown. Yesterday, you said there were two losers coming out of it, congressional Republicans and President Trump. Can you expand on that?”

BESHEAR: “Yeah, that’s right. I don’t think there’s ever a winner in a shutdown. But there are two losers in this one. The first is congressional Republicans who showed the country they were willing to extend a tax cut for the rich, but wouldn’t extend a tax credit for working Americans to make their their health insurance affordable. What we’re seeing is, is congressional Republicans say they won’t do anything as prices skyrocket and people lose their ability to see a doctor. The second loser is definitely Donald Trump, who showed this country that he was willing to use starving children and starving seniors as pawns for political leverage. He had a court that said, you can pay SNAP benefits for everyone. He had the USDA who had always done this before, and you know what he did? He actually went to court to stop paying benefits. He went to court to stop putting food on people’s tables. It ought to show everybody that this is someone who is mean and cruel. And if your kids are going hungry, he doesn’t care.”
