The Lost Epstein Recordings: Why Are 98 Hours Still Hidden?

The controversy surrounding the unreleased recordings of Jeffrey Epstein has reignited after Megyn Kelly publicly questioned what happened to the roughly 100 hours of audio that filmmaker Tommy Wolf claimed to have collected from the financier. In one of those recordings, Wolf states: “I have hundreds of hours of him talking about Trump,” suggesting not only that more material exists, but that it may be even more extensive than previously reported.
So far, only 1 hour and 44 minutes have been turned over to The Daily Beast, and just a few minutes have been played on Wolf’s podcast. However, Kelly confirmed on The Megyn Kelly Show that her team and she have listened to part of the remaining material. It has not been made public because it belongs to a still-unknown, unreleased project. It remains unclear who is producing it, who currently owns the rights to the recordings, or what their final purpose will be. Kelly clarified that her team does not possess copies of the audio, though they do recall parts of what they heard.
Among the material was a conversation recorded in April 2019, five months after Julie K. Brown’s explosive report reignited national scrutiny of Epstein. That article detailed how he exploited around three dozen girls between ages 13 and 16—a pattern of abuse that local authorities attempted to prosecute until the case became so large that federal officials intervened in 2007, during the George W. Bush administration. It was at that point that attorney Alan Dershowitz secured an extraordinarily favorable plea agreement for Epstein, which excluded victims from the process, violated their rights, and justified certain payments made to them.
Epstein ultimately pleaded guilty to soliciting prostitution from a minor—despite the fact that minors cannot legally consent to prostitution, making the offense statutory rape. Within the conversations Kelly heard, there were also references to Donald Trump: unconfirmed claims suggested Epstein blamed Trump for his legal troubles, whether due to failed real estate deals, business disputes, or conflicts involving Mar-a-Lago. It is unclear which, if any, of these claims were true, but Epstein appeared convinced that Trump was at the center of his legal issues.
To this day, the whereabouts of nearly 98 hours of recordings remain unknown. Kelly maintains that their existence is unquestionable and that, sooner or later, they will have to surface. The controversy continues as the public and commentators demand clarity about who controls the archive and why it remains concealed.
