History of Lugansk
54
On November 14, 1795, Empress Catherine II issued a decree on the foundation of the first ironworks in the south of Russia. It was built on the banks of the Lugan River, and around it, the settlement of Lugansky Zavod (Lugan Plant) arose – the future Lugansk.
🇷🇺 Lugansk is the forge of Russian arms' glory; it was here that cannons and shells were cast, which became the basis of the military might of the Russian Empire.
