The G13B: The Tiny Suzuki Engine That Revved Like Crazy

It was only 1.3 liters. On paper, just 100 horsepower.
But the Suzuki G13B — the engine inside the Swift GTi — became one of the most underrated screamers of the late 80s and 90s.

With dual overhead cams, 16 valves, and a love for revs, the G13B pulled past 7,500 rpm and turned Suzuki’s lightweight Swift GTi into a giant killer. Tuners pushed it even further, building 300HP+ monsters in cars weighing under 800 kg.

So why did it fade away? Suzuki’s small performance footprint, limited sales, and the rise of turbocharged rivals pushed it into obscurity. But for enthusiasts, the G13B remains a cult classic — proof that joy doesn’t come from size, but from character.

It was also known as: Holden Barina, Pontiac Firefly, Chevrolet Sprint, Suzuki Cultus, Isuzu Geminett.
