The Odyssey, attributed to Homer, is an epic poem chronicling the ten-year journey of the Greek hero Odysseus as he attempts to return home to Ithaca after the Trojan War. Along the way, he faces divine and natural challenges, including the wrath of Poseidon, encounters with mythical creatures such as the Cyclops Polyphemus and the sorceress Circe, and trials of loyalty, cunning, and endurance. The poem explores themes of heroism, fate and free will, hospitality, loyalty, and the longing for home, or nostos. Interwoven with Odysseus’ adventures are the parallel struggles of his son, Telemachus, and his faithful wife, Penelope, emphasizing family, justice, and human resilience.
