n this episode we’re taken back to 1908, where a young Francis Shaw (Diesel La Torraca) experiences fear for the first time at a carnival. After accepting a slingshot from his father, Francis befriends a young Native girl named Rose (young: Violet Sutherland; adult: Kimberly Norris Guerrero). The two encounter a monstrous figure in the woods and flee, setting the stage for Derry’s long-buried evil.

In the present day (1962), the kids — Lilly Bainbridge (Clara Stack), Ronnie Grogan (Amanda Christine), Will Hanlon (Blake Cameron James) and Rich Santos (Arian S. Cartaya) — attempt a graveyard ritual to summon evidence of the creature, but are met with ghostly visions and manage only a shaky photograph of a clown.

Meanwhile, adults continue their own investigation: Dick Hallorann (Chris Chalk) uses his psychic talent to explore the sewers after being asked by Leroy Hanlon (Jovan Adepo) and Francis Shaw (adult: James Remar) to uncover the town’s hidden horrors. Shaw also revisits Rose (adult) about the dig site, causing tension with the Shokopiwah tribe.
