Senate Democrats face pushback for advancing shutdown funding bill

We are seeing a renewed sense of optimism that the record-breaking government shutdown could end soon as the House is set to reconvene Wednesday to vote on the bill that was passed by the Senate. Early reports indicate that the funding bill would keep the government open through late January, and the bill will fully fund SNAP benefits through the end of September 2026. After weeks of negotiations, some moderate Senate Democrats agreed to reopen the government without a guaranteed extension of health care subsidies. This left a number in their caucus upset after Democrats in Congress demanded that Republicans negotiate with them on the Affordable Care Act tax credits that expire Jan. 1.
