Israel’s Knesset has approved the first reading of the bill calling for the execution of Palestinian detainees. It needs two more to become law.

After the vote, National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir handed out baklava to celebrate.

The bill paves the way for mass executions of Palestinians, many of whom are already detained without fair trials or any charges.

These people are sick.

Nothing says “the only democracy in the Middle East” like a state handing out sweets after voting for mass executions without due process…

The Geneva Conventions, via Common Article 3 and the Fourth Convention, mandate fair trials and prohibit summary executions or cruel treatment of detainees, including civilians in occupied territories. A bill enabling executions without due process for uncharged Palestinian prisoners would likely violate these protections, as affirmed by international bodies like the ICRC. Israel disputes full applicability of the Conventions to the territories but remains bound as a signatory; such a law risks escalating legal and diplomatic backlash.
