✋🏽 WHAT IS DARVO? - DARVO is a manipulation tactic used by abusers that stands for Deny, Attack, and Reverse Victim and Offender. It involves denying wrongdoing, attacking the person who is confronting them, and then flipping the roles so the abuser appears to be the victim and the true victim appears to be the perpetrator. This tactic is used to evade accountability for their behavior and to confuse the issues.

▪️They may deny their behavior completely or claim it was a misunderstanding.

▪️The perpetrator assumes the role of the victim.
▪️They accuse the person who is trying to hold them accountable of being the abuser or of making false accusations. For example, a person might say they are the one being "falsely accused" and blame the accuser for the situation.

▫️To avoid responsibility for their actions.
▫️To confuse the issues and manipulate the situation in their favor.
▫️To make the true victim doubt their own perception and memory, which can lead to self-silencing.
