Tales from Trinity City Combat system

We’re going to use two scenarios between Valkyrie and two groups of opponents to look at how the Tales from Trinity City combat system works.

In Scenario 1, Valkyrie is Fame 1, with a normal staff, no amour, and with Lightning Mastery, flying, and Martial Arts: Way of the Crane. She has +1 to her attack rolls, can do 40 damage during regular attacks, and does 70 by electrifying her staff for maximum carnage for 2 energy. She has 100 health and 10 defensive rating.

She fights 5 punks with rocks. Rocks do 30 damage per hit, and they have a 50% chance to hit, so she will go down in 2 rounds.

In Scenario 2, she is Fame 12, a living legend. She has 400 health, has Indestructium armour granting her 25 Physical Damage Reduction, and with flying and her Athletics, she has 26 Defensive Rating. She also has a +18 to her Combat Mod and does 90 Physical Damage and 20 Electrical Damage with her Indestructium Power-Link spear. And with her 32 speed, she can take 2.5 actions per round.

She fights 5 Friends of the Shaper Cultists soldiers — 150 Health, 16 Defensive Rating, and Speed 12. Two have Shot guns (420 base damage per hit - close range), and 3 have Assault Rifles (60 damage per hit, 5 attacks per round - long range).

In this scenario, she uses her speed and crowd control abilities to stun the soldiers each round to slowly defeat all 5 in 3 rounds, but she only has 105 Health left after it.

Wave two will be a killer…

This shows any character is not invincible — even at Fame 12!
