Discipline Is Not Physical

Focus on the family wants you to hit your children if you can't discipline them "gently" first. “Rod” was translated from a word that can also mean “to branch off”. The verse in question (Proverbs 13:24) actually means to train your child so that they can move out of the house when the time comes. Being a good parent doesn’t mean you need to physically hit your children, and the bible doesn’t support it either. So sayeth the Lord.

The verse translated proverbs 24:13-14
One who refrains from cutting off from their child, hates their child, but he who cares for their child, teaches their child early.

If you need help finding a good translation of the bible and the VB hasn’t been fully translated yet, then consider a Septuagint. Most orthodox Christians and Catholics use a Septuagint rather than an NIV or a KJV. Always look at genesis chapter 4:9… most bible translations are inaccurate and read “am I my brother’s keeper?”. The verse translated properly actually means “I’m not my brother’s guardian, am I?” The term used for guardian is “keep” as in a “castle keep”… it means “to guard”. “Keeper” alludes to some form of slave ownership, with which, is inaccurate.
