The Senate failed to reach the 60-vote threshold needed to pass Sen. Ron Johnson's (R-WI) Shutdown Fairness Act. The bill would have paid federal employees who have continued to work during the shutdown.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump is putting pressure on Congress, saying the Senate “should not leave town" until they have a deal to end the shutdown in place.

Trump posted the following statement on Truth Social on Friday:
"The United States Senate should not leave town until they have a Deal to end the Democrat Shutdown. If they can’t reach a Deal, the Republicans should terminate the Filibuster, IMMEDIATELY, and take care of our Great American Workers!"
