Tintri's Brock Mowry on Kubernetes Data Management & CSI Integration | KubeCon NA 2025
Tintri Showcases Advanced Kubernetes Data Management at KubeCon + CloudNativeCon
Ahead of KubeCon + CloudNativeCon North America 2025 in Atlanta, VMblog sat down with Brock Mowry, CTO of Tintri, to discuss how the company is solving critical data management challenges for Kubernetes environments.
Key Highlights:
Mowry introduced Tintri's VM Store, a 2U data management appliance that has expanded beyond virtualization to support persistent volumes in containerized applications. The platform specializes in stateful workloads where performance and latency are critical concerns.
Solving Visibility Challenges
The primary problem Tintri addresses is visibility into IO-intensive applications. Mowry shared a compelling customer success story from the oil and gas industry, where a Fortune 500 company reduced application latency from 15 milliseconds down to single-digit numbers after deploying VM Store. The platform's deep analytics also helped them identify an unexpected application contributing to latency issues.
New CSI Integration
At KubeCon, Tintri is highlighting its new CSI (Container Storage Interface) integration, featuring dynamic provisioning of persistent volumes and automated deprovisioning. The company has developed a Kubernetes Data Service that makes VM Store aware of Kubernetes infrastructures, enabling dynamic performance optimization based on real-time metrics.
Security & Data Protection
The platform now includes dual custody snapshot locking, providing enhanced security against ransomware and other threats—a critical feature as cyberattacks continue to challenge enterprises.
Looking Ahead to 2026
Mowry discussed key trends including multicloud management and workload repatriation to on-premises environments. Tintri's roadmap includes the Tintri Cloud Engine, a containerized version of their controller that can be deployed in Kubernetes environments. The company is also partnering with vendors like Platform9 to strengthen their control plane capabilities.
Tintri's Vision
"Our vision is to make data management invisible," Mowry explained. "Storage should never be a bottleneck for innovation. We want to be the accelerator."
