New Government App Will Be the End of All Freedom in South Africa

The South African government is proposing a new MyMzansi app, a digital platform that could one day host services like digital driving licenses and online access to government functions. On paper, it sounds convenient — no more queues, no more waiting for months for your license card. But as always, the question is: what’s the real price of convenience?

In this video, I explore what this proposal really means for freedom, privacy, and control in South Africa. Could this idea — inspired by “digital transformation” — lead us toward a centralized surveillance system similar to China’s social credit model? Or is it simply about improving public service delivery?

We’ll also look at how Ramaphosa’s digital services unit, the World Economic Forum’s vision for global digital identity, and the increasing centralization of data could slowly pave the way toward something far more dangerous — a world where access to your money, transport, or even communication depends on government approval.
