In “The Thing in the Dark”, the gravity of what happened at the movie theater in Episode 1 hits hard for several characters. Lilly wakes up from a nightmare about the massacre and realizes that her terror wasn’t just a vision — it was real.
Hank Grogan, the theater projectionist and Ronnie’s father, is under suspicion by the Derry police, who sit outside his apartment trying to pin the children’s deaths on him. Hank protests his innocence, while Ronnie watches in fear of what might happen to her father.
Meanwhile, the Hanlon family — Leroy, Charlotte, and Will — have just moved to #Derry, and Episode 2 deepens their adjustment. Will faces alienation at his new school; Charlotte confronts racial and social injustice in town; Leroy begins to unravel the reason he was brought to Derry.

The military subplot advances significantly: General Shaw reveals to Leroy that the mission isn’t just about moving to Derry — it’s about locating a frightening entity beneath the town’s surface that feeds on fear (i.e., Pennywise). #DickHallorann, with his psychic ability, is brought into the fold. The episode ends with a chilling discovery at an excavation site: a vintage car filled with skeletal bodies — a horrifying clue that the threat runs deeper than suspected
