It belongs to Amaranthaceae family. It is an annual plant . It grows about 30 cm. There are three main categories of spinach Savoy spinach, Flat leafed spinach and semi savoy spinach. It has got many health benefits.
1) It is rich in folate, which help to reduce the occurrence of diseases like Alzheimer's.
2) It is rich in potassium, which is essential for maintaining heart rhythm.
3) It is rich in beta carotene, lutein and xanthine which are very helpful for providing good eyesight.
4) It contains anti-oxidants, potassium and folate, which are very beneficial for neurons.
5) Regular conception of spinach can regain degenerated pigments like lutein and xanthine. This will help in preventing Retinitis pigmentosa.
6) It is rich in vitamin K, which helps in blood clotting. Thus, it can be used as a remedial measure for hemophilia.
7) An anti-oxidant (C0-Q10) present in the spinach plays an important role in strengthening the muscles.
8) C0-Q10 which is also helpful for preventing diseases like hyperlipidemia, heart failure, hypertension and coronary heart disease.
9) As it is rich in vitamin K, which is helpful for retaining calcium in the bone.
10) It is rich in lutein and zeaxanthin, which prevents the eyes from cataract.
11) It is a good source of protein which can be easily broken down into amino acids. This will aid in muscle development and growth.
