Wolfgang Schoor’s story is one of determination and lifelong craftsmanship. Coming to Canada from Germany many years ago, he understood that earning a sustainable and honorable living as an immigrant would take patience, diligence, and goodwill. He embraced the challenge of adapting to a new culture, learning a new language, and mastering new building technologies.

Already a trained journeyman carpenter, joiner, and toolmaker, Wolfgang chose to begin again — completing a second apprenticeship in British Columbia. There, he helped build hundreds of wood-framed apartment complexes, senior housing units, and townhouses throughout the Lower Mainland.

That dedication led him to complete his Canadian apprenticeship as a Carpenter and Joiner Journeyman — a milestone that opened the door to new opportunities. Over time, he became a foreman, business owner, and construction manager, overseeing residential and commercial projects for more than 15 years. His experience expanded into estimating, supervision, and education, earning both college and university credentials along the way.

Throughout his career, Wolfgang has worked on over a thousand projects across Canada — from Ontario and Quebec to Alberta, Nunavut, and British Columbia. His skills span traditional European craftsmanship and today’s advanced Canadian building systems, including modular, prefabricated, timber frame, and mass timber construction.

His academic work at the University of Waterloo reflected this lifelong passion — a thesis comparable in depth to a master’s degree — which later became a valuable training resource for students at Confederation College, helping them understand the evolution of Canadian wood-frame construction.

Looking back, Wolfgang continues to value the traditional learning processes that shaped his early years. He believes that true craftsmanship, education, and persistence still hold the power to create lasting, meaningful results — not only in construction, but in community life as well.
