J. M. Gantt, witness for the State in rebuttal, at the Trial of Leo Frank in the Fulton County Superior Court of Atlanta, Georgia, in 1913 (Testimony Portion From July 28 - August 21, 1913; Closing Arguments August 21-25, 1913)
Former pencil-factory shipping clerk J. M. Gantt testified that he had personally observed Leo Frank prepare the weekly financial sheet. After Gantt supplied Frank with the necessary production and shipping data, it typically took Frank one and a half hours to complete the report. This testimony directly contradicted Frank’s unsworn statement that he finished the financial sheet for the week ending April 24, 1913, in under an hour on the afternoon of April 26—supporting the State’s contention that Frank could not have completed the work in the time he claimed, thereby undermining his alibi that he was occupied at his desk when Mary Phagan was murdered.
