🌍💫 How Fast Are *You* Moving Right Now?

Neil deGrasse Tyson loves to remind us: even when you’re “sitting still,” you’re flying through the universe at incredible speeds.

- **Earth’s rotation**: You’re spinning at about *1,670 km/h* (1,040 mph) at the equator.
- **Earth’s orbit around the Sun**: Add another *107,000 km/h* (66,600 mph).
- **Solar System’s orbit around the Milky Way**: Now we’re talking *828,000 km/h* (514,000 mph).
- **Milky Way’s motion through the universe**: Roughly *2.1 million km/h* (1.3 million mph) toward the constellation Hydra.

Stack it all up, and you’re moving at **over 2 million kilometers per hour** through space. And yet—you feel nothing. That’s because motion is relative, and we’re moving with everything around us.

As Tyson puts it, “We are not simply in the universe. The universe is in us.” And we’re surfing its fabric, carried by gravity, inertia, and time itself.
