"How did Abdul Muttalib react when he first saw his grandson?"

The blessed city of Mecca was filled with peace when Abdul Muttalib, the great leader of the Quraysh, received the news of his newborn grandson. His heart was filled with joy as he entered the house of Amina, where the fragrance of mercy permeated the air. In his arms lay a child unlike any other - calm, radiant, and pure. This was the long-awaited grandson whom Allah had chosen for a divine mission. With tears of gratitude, Abdul Muttalib picked up the child, carried him to the holy Kaaba, and thanked Allah for this miracle that was destined to guide all of humanity.

When the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was born, Mecca was a city steeped in tradition and pride in lineage. Abdul Muttalib, who is known for his wisdom and leadership, once vowed that if Allah Almighty blessed him with many sons, he would dedicate one of them to His service. Allah Almighty accepted his sincerity and from among his offspring came a man whose name would resonate until the Day of Judgment.

Upon hearing the news of the birth, Abdul Muttalib hurried to the house of Amina (RA). He entered quietly and saw the blessed infant shining with divine light. The child lay down peacefully, neither crying nor restless. His face shone with a calmness that softened every heart. Amina (RA) narrated to him the amazing events that surrounded the birth - the light that illuminated the distant regions, and the peace that filled his soul.

Overcome with emotion, Abdul Muttalib gently picked up the child and looked at him in amazement. He felt that this was no ordinary child. Guided by inspiration, he wrapped the newborn in a white cloth and took him to the Kaaba. He stood before the Kaaba, raised his hands in gratitude, and said: All praise is due to Allah who has blessed me with this righteous son. The atmosphere was filled with devotion, as even those around him could sense that this birth was extraordinary.

At that time, Abdul Muttalib chose a name that had never been used before among the Arabs - *Muhammad*, which means "the one who is praised." When people asked him why he had chosen such a rare name, he replied, "I wish his praise were in the earth and the heavens." His words were prophetic, for Allah later revealed in Surah Al-Sharh verse 4:

"And We have raised your honor for you."

Indeed, the name Muhammad will be honored in every land and in every prayer until the end of time.

Abdul Muttalib carried the child in his arms and circumambulated the Kaaba, praying for its protection, guidance, and greatness. It is said that as he walked, a gentle breeze blew and the idols surrounding the Kaaba bowed silently, as if witnessing the arrival of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The Quraysh watched with curiosity, not knowing that this little boy would one day end idolatry and restore the pure message of Abraham (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).

The ceremony of naming the Prophet became a moment in history. In Arabic tradition, names have deep meanings and are usually chosen by the ancestors. But Abdul Muttalib's heart received divine guidance to choose "Muhammad", a name unknown to his ancestors but destined for greatness. Later, Allah would confirm the purpose of this name in the Quran in Surah As-Saff verse 6:

“And to bring glad tidings of a Messenger after me whose name shall be Ahmad.”

“Ahmad” and “Muhammad” both have the same root, meaning “praiseworthy,” reflecting the Prophet’s unparalleled character and divine mission.

Abdul Muttalib then returned the infant to Aminah, filled with a sense of awe and peace. He kissed the child’s forehead and said softly, “This child will have a very good destiny.” As if Allah Almighty had put those words into his heart. The Quraysh celebrated, and soon, the story of this newborn spread throughout Mecca – a child born under strange but blessed signs, from a noble family, who would change the world forever.

Years later, when the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) began his mission, the world realized the depth of that first moment. Abdul Muttalib's gratitude, his choice of the name Muhammad, and his prayer at the Kaaba became the foundation of a story that changed humanity. The child in whose arms grew up to be a mercy to all the worlds, the beloved Prophet, whose name every believer will speak with love. Even today, when we hear the name Muhammad, our hearts are filled with peace, just as Abdul Muttalib did on that blessed day in Mecca.
