Miraculous Events at the Time of the Prophet’s (PBUH) Birth

The blessed night arrived — a night unlike any other in human history. The year was 570 CE, and Makkah lay silent under the starlit sky. In the humble home of ?minah (RA), the final Prophet (PBUH) was about to enter the world. As he came into existence, extraordinary signs filled the heavens and the earth. Angels descended, light spread across distant lands, and the unseen world rejoiced. His birth marked the beginning of divine mercy, ending centuries of darkness and disbelief. Let us journey back to that sacred night when the light of Muhammad (PBUH) first shone upon the world.

When Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was born, countless miracles appeared that confirmed his noble status and divine mission. His blessed birth occurred in the month of Rabi‘ al-Awwal, on a Monday, in the city of Makkah. The night was calm, yet filled with heavenly wonders that foretold the arrival of Allah’s final Messenger.

According to authentic seerah traditions, when ?minah (RA) gave birth, she saw a light so radiant that it illuminated the palaces of Syria. The Prophet (PBUH) was born circumcised and clean, with his umbilical cord already separated, signifying purity and divine protection. He immediately placed his hands upon the earth and raised his head toward the heavens, symbolizing his future connection with his Lord.

In Surah Al-Ahzab, verse 45-46, Allah describes this divine mission:

“O Prophet, indeed We have sent you as a witness, a bringer of good tidings, and a warner, and one who invites to Allah by His permission and as an illuminating lamp.”
The world witnessed the birth of that illuminating lamp — the Nur (light) of guidance.

It is reported that at the time of his birth, the great fire in Persia that had burned continuously for a thousand years suddenly extinguished. The famous lake of Sawa, which had been worshiped by pagans, dried up completely. The Persian king’s palace shook, and fourteen of its towers collapsed. These events signified the fall of false empires and the rise of divine truth.

In the heavens, angels rejoiced and praised Allah. The gates of Paradise were opened, and the devils were restrained from the skies. According to narration, light shone from the east to the west, symbolizing that the Prophet (PBUH)’s message would reach every corner of the world.

Even the animals felt the peace of that moment. It is said that wild creatures gathered silently, while the seas calmed. A voice was heard in the unseen world proclaiming, “Truth has come, and falsehood has vanished.” This echoes the verse in Surah Al-Isra, verse 81:

“And say, Truth has come, and falsehood has vanished. Indeed, falsehood is bound to vanish.”

His grandfather, Abdul Muttalib, upon hearing of his birth, entered the Ka‘bah to thank Allah. He named the newborn “Muhammad,” meaning “The Praised One,” inspired by divine guidance. The name carried a promise — that this child would be praised on earth and in the heavens.

A strange peace filled Makkah that night. The idols in the Ka‘bah fell on their faces. The sky seemed brighter, the air lighter, and hearts filled with awe. Many wise people of Arabia, Jews, and Christians recalled prophecies from their ancient scriptures about a prophet who would arise in Makkah.

This was not only a physical birth but a spiritual awakening for humanity. As the Prophet (PBUH) came into the world, light entered every realm — the heavens, the earth, and the hearts of those who would follow him. His birth was the beginning of guidance, mercy, and truth that would transform all creation.

In Surah Al-Anbiya, verse 107, Allah declares:

“And We have not sent you, O Muhammad, except as a mercy to the worlds.”
That mercy began the moment he opened his blessed eyes to the world.

The night of the Prophet’s (PBUH) birth was the dawn of divine mercy. Every sign — the trembling idols, the extinguished fire, and the radiant light — announced that a new era had begun. Humanity’s guide had arrived, chosen by Allah to lead mankind from darkness to truth. Let us remember this miracle not just as history but as a reminder of hope, peace, and divine love. The Prophet (PBUH) was born to spread mercy, and that mercy still shines for those who follow his path. May our hearts remain illuminated by the light that was born that blessed night.
