War in ukraine

At the Transmash plant in Omsk they're gradually introducing solutions based on combat use of the T-80BVM.

1 — Fuel tanks have long since stopped being taken into combat, and penetration through the side skirts is one of the threats posed by FPV drones. The fix was implemented as modules with explosive/reactive armor of various sizes (nine different sizes!) that are installed in place of the fuel tanks.

2 — Yes, it finally happened: after three years ERA was installed over the bare areas not covered by the “Relikt” on the upper glacis and on the sides of the driver’s hatch. Reduced-height containers are fitted there (17 boxes in total). There wasn’t enough clearance to put ERA on the hatch itself.

3 — ERA “flaps”/plates. A fairly obvious solution to cover a weakened zone.

The solutions are modular and this is only part of them. But the gun mantlet still hasn’t been covered. The upgrade is quite substantial and is based on analysis of drone strike impacts — holes in the upper glacis plate, explosive reactive armor (ERA) on the side skirts, ERA “flaps” rear protection, a mini mine plow with patented cables, a “super-grill” cage, and more (the video shows only the first three features).

The downside is the neglect of protection around the gun mantlet area
