Protests erupted in Tanzania on Oct 29 following a disputed presidential election widely seen as inclined towards President Samia Suluhu Hassan as she barred major opposition parties from contesting the election. Violent protests erupted near Namanga, a Kenyan town located on the border with Tanzania, as protesters from Tanzania fled across the border into Kenya. Police fired stun grenades and live ammunition at protesters, who scattered in panic as tear gas filled the streets.

Also on Vantage Shots:

- Residents of the Belgian town of Kasterlee got into huge, hollowed-out pumpkins to paddle around a pond in an annual event celebrating the squashes and watersports.
- Animals at Whipsnade Zoo were treated to a Halloween meal as they indulged in pumpkins and played with festive decorations.
- This day in history: In 1984, former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was assassinated by her own security guards. It happened in the aftermath of Operation Bluestar which was carried out by the military in the Golden Temple, a sacred site for Sikhs. Gandhi's death sent shockwaves across the nation, leading to one of the worst communal unrest and bloodshed in Punjab.
