Positive Reaction to Scream 7 Trailer Despite Some Calls for a Boycott

The initial reaction to the Scream 7 trailer seems to be generally positive despite calls for a boycott by some younger fans of the franchise.

The backlash towards Scream 7 stems from the decision by the studio to fire star Melissa Barrera following her social media comments that were perceived to be antisemitic. Following Barrera’s firing, Jenna Ortega also announced she was leaving, but her decision to leave was made prior to Barrera’s ousting. Now younger fans are upset with the studio, but the core of the Scream fanbase, gen x and older millennials, don’t seem to mind. The audience that made Scream such a huge franchise seem to be onboard with this next installment and if it doesn’t perform at the box office it will probably not be because of a fringe group on social media.
