Boise, ID - Two Ada County deputies who fatally shot a man who police said pulled out a gun on them during an investigation in 2024 were justified.

Twin Falls Prosecuting Attorney Grant Loebs released a memo stating that Detective Cory Feldman and Deputy Daniel Stradling were justified in the Oct. 15, 2024, fatal shooting of 43-year-old Lucas Alleman of Star at the Optimist Youth Sports Complex in Boise.

According to an Ada County Sheriff's Office news release, deputies had been searching for Alleman as he was the suspect involved in a felony sex crime case with a minor. Police said he had a warrant for charges of lewd conduct with a minor, rape, forcible penetration, and sexual battery.

Alleman had also made suicidal statements, the sheriff's office stated.

Deputies found Alleman at the sports complex using a drone. According to the sheriff's office, Alleman ignored their commands and then reached behind his back, pulling out a handgun. Two deputies fired shots.

"At the time he was shot, Alleman had suddenly drawn his handgun, and had pointed it at Deputies on his way to pointing it at himself," the prosecuting attorney said.

The sheriff's office said deputies provided aid until paramedics arrived, but he died at the scene from gunshot wounds to the neck and torso.

Loebs' memo stated that after reviewing the case and the independent investigation by the Critical Incident Task Force led by Boise Police, both were justified in the shooting.

"At the time he was shot, Alleman had suddenly drawn his handgun and had pointed it at deputies, on his way to pointing it at himself," Loebs wrote in his memo.
