Day 304 – Living for What Lasts: The Cost of Discipleship — Luke 12–14 | Bible In A Year (CSB)

In these chapters, Jesus calls His followers to live with eternity in view. He warns against greed through the parable of the rich fool, urges His disciples to stay ready for His return, and reminds us that following Him will bring division and sacrifice. In Luke 14, the parable of the great banquet shows God’s invitation to all—but not all are willing to come. Jesus closes by teaching that true discipleship requires counting the cost and carrying the cross.

Questions:
1. In Luke 12:15–21, Jesus warns that life does not consist in the abundance of possessions. How does this challenge the way we define success today?

2. What does Jesus mean when He says that following Him will divide families (Luke 12:51–53)? How can we stay faithful even when discipleship costs us relationships or comfort?

3. In Luke 14:28–33, Jesus talks about counting the cost before following Him. What might that “cost” look like in your life right now?
