Rancagua is a city south of Santiago, in the center of Chile. The Plaza de los Héroes, surrounded by trees, reminds the Chileans who fought in the Battle of Rancagua during the War of Independence. It also houses the cathedral of Rancagua, which has two twin bell towers. General Bernardo O'Higgins, a national hero, commanded troops during the battle from the nearby church of La Merced. Located in a colonial building, the Regional Museum of Rancagua explores the past of the area.
