TOO MANY COLLEGES? YER DAMN RIGHT! YOU'RE VICTIMS OF BRAIN WASHING
TOO MANY UNIVERSITIES AND COLLEGES
The education industry has run amok.
Every fall, over 3,982 colleges and universities in the United States line up to sucker-punch parents, students on loans, and others as they ply their damaged and often fake wares … for a price. That’s nearly 80 schools per state, and there are more on the horizon. 19 million enroll each year with a dropout rate of nearly 40% by the 2nd year of study. The main reason cited, “They just can’t afford it.”
From government to private to religious these schools have fallen short of fairness and proficiency at educating our young. Their admission standards are designed to bring in those who are most able to pay the outrageous tuitions and fees.
Our young are receiving ridiculous diplomas with less importance than 6 months as a barista at the local coffee shop. It’s estimated that over 79% of undergraduate degrees handed out are liberal arts degrees with such majors as Women’s Studies, Musicology, Calligraphy, Black History, Psychology and the beat goes on.
The fault is that of the school for failing to help the new student find an actual direction. A direction is important when you are about to spend the next 4~5 years of your life pursuing a degree for a purpose. “Stay in school as long as you can.” Is a common theme among college students.
Dealing with youngsters aged 18~20 entering college for the first time we see a deep drive to leave home and strike out on their own. The thought of living in a dorm in an out-of-state school is greatly appealing to many. I recently listened to a young man in Stoneham, Massachusetts complaining to his parents that he had been accepted by MIT, but didn’t want to go. After some interrogation the parents realized that this campus was “too close to home” and he really just wanted to break away and “do his own thing.”
American parents, long brainwashed by the 8 Trillion dollar education industry, have been made to believe that if their child doesn’t go to college, it’s a sign of bad parenting. They believe that their kid has to go to college or their associates, neighbors and relatives will look down on them if their kid [gasp] enrolls in trade school or enters the military.
It’s a fact that degrees need to be designed for a purpose. Scott wanted to be a doctor so he steered his studies from day one toward that goal. His bachelor degree carried two majors, Chemistry and Biology. Good job! He is now a doctor and very happy to be so. Cleverly manipulating grants and loans, he was finally out of debt 8 years out of med school.
Craig wanted to “find himself” and took a variety of Liberal Arts courses such as Nordic Mythology, Latin, Psychology, Creative Writing and such. He eventually gained the undergraduate degree he wanted with a major in Anthropology … [honest!] He works as a night-manager at a all-night diner. Now there’s a way to do things! This guy’s still $60,000 in debt for his student loans.
The fact is that most Americans’ don’t need a college degree. The highest paying job in America is salesman or woman. Sales jobs don’t require a degree. The next highest paying jobs in America are business owners. While some education in Business Management might help, such courses are offered at little-to-no-charge by the Small Business Administration
The next highest paying jobs in America are tradesmen; the folks who repair airplanes, ships, cars, power plants etc. A close contender is an Automotive Technician whose starting salary is typically 3 ~ 5 times higher than a liberal arts graduate degree [Master’s Degree]. Yes, these technical positions do require post-high school training but the length of the average program is 24 months [less than half as long as a ‘formal’ education] and the cost is around 38 ~ 40% cheaper.
Do we really need 3,982 colleges and universities? Do 20 Million kids each year really need to go to college? C’mon, you tell me.
