Red Dot & Surrender Position Struggles - Help a Shooter Out

I went to the range to work on my fundamentals with my pistol, preparing to shoot my first ever Steel Challenge using a pistol. Yes, it was completely a disaster! But that is why I am making a genuine request to the tactical interweb and the operational gods to see if somebody will give me genuine advice on working from the surrender position and also with acquiring my red dot as I present to target.
