I just watched Tectone’s video ““Good People” aren’t Good People”, and it hit hard. He’s saying what many of us feel but avoid speaking out: people who claim moral high ground often do so with smiles and hashtags—but when a friend needs a real hard truth instead of a shallow compliment, they duck. In this reaction I agree with him, call out the phonies, and highlight why we should value authentic truth-speakers, not just nice-looking affirmers.

Being “nice” isn’t the same as being good, safe compliments, social media posts, “liking” causes without real action—these are easy. But when the moment comes to speak an uncomfortable truth, many stay silent.

Tectone nails this: “Good people aren’t ‘good’ people”—because they avoid hard truths.

Virtue signalling replaces real virtue, using social causes or signal-making is appealing because it projects goodness. But if you’re only projecting, you’re still hiding.

The video challenges us: if you champion a cause, do you also fight when it’s unpopular, or just when applause is guaranteed?

Our relationships and communities deserve truth-tellers, friendship isn’t about comfort—it includes challenge. If a “good person” won’t say what needs saying, they might be nice—but they aren’t the friend you need when things go wrong.

If you’ve ever chosen the easy path (“I agree with you,” “That’s cool”) instead of the hard truth (“That’s wrong,” “We need to fix this”) — you’re part of the dynamic Tectone criticizes.
