A recent survey by the Pew Research Center reveals that across 23 countries, a median of 58% of adults are dissatisfied with how democracy functions in their nations. In the United States, that figure rises to around 60%.

In an analysis aired on CNN, Fareed Zakaria noted that the main challenge facing democracies today is moral and social rather than managerial.
He suggested that when public trust in institutions erodes, elections can turn into deep political battles and even truth itself becomes divided along partisan lines.
