Separately, Rep. Eric Swalwell demanded that any Democrat presidential candidate in 2028 must pledge to demolish Trump's newly constructed White House ballroom. Swalwell's call came in response to Trump's $250 million ballroom project, which he portrayed as an extravagant misuse of resources that future leaders should commit to tearing down.

The California Democrat suggested this pledge as a litmus test for 2028 nominees, emphasizing opposition to Trump's architectural additions to the White House. Swalwell's statement faced mockery from conservatives, who labeled it as "ridiculous" and indicative of TDS over Trump's initiatives.
