Ex NFL Star Adrian Peterson Arrested In Sugarland, TX For DWI And Weapon Charge - 2nd DWI In Months.

Former NFL star Adrian Peterson was arrested early Sunday morning in Sugar Land, Texas, and now faces multiple charges, including driving while intoxicated (DWI) and unlawful possession of a weapon, according to local police. Authorities confirmed that Peterson, 40, was taken into custody around 9:30 a.m., though they declined to share further details due to an ongoing investigation. Jail records from Fort Bend County verified his arrest.

This isn’t Peterson’s first run-in with similar charges. Earlier this year, he was arrested for DWI shortly after attending Minnesota’s 2025 NFL Draft party. Over the summer, Peterson was also involved in a physical altercation during a poker game in Houston. That dispute led to him signing a Celebrity Boxing deal, setting up a bout against Joe “Baby Joe” Castaneda—the same man involved in the poker fight.

No criminal charges came from that incident, and police did not intervene. Footage from the brawl showed Peterson with a bloody face, which he later said was caused by hitting a chair during the scuffle.

Peterson’s boxing career has been brief; he previously suffered a knockout loss to former NFL running back Le’Veon Bell in 2022.

A former MVP and 2007 Rookie of the Year out of Oklahoma, Peterson rushed for 14,918 yards and scored 120 touchdowns over a 15-year NFL career. He spent most of his time with the Minnesota Vikings before shorter stints with the Saints, Commanders, Cardinals, Lions, Titans, and Seahawks.

Peterson attempted an NFL comeback in 2021 after sitting out the 2022 season but was unable to land a roster spot. Had he succeeded, he would have become the oldest running back to play in the Super Bowl era, which began in 1966.

Peterson grew up in Palestine, Texas, about three hours north of Sugar Land.
